My Scott family came from County Down, Northern Ireland in the 1700s but we are sure they are of Scottish origin - probably Selkirk area. The name Francis features a lot. Does anyone else out there have Irish Scotts?

My great-grandmother was Helen Handley, nee Scott. My mother's side is a strong Scottish family, and certain of our Scott heritage. Unfortuantely I don't know of any relatives in Scotland itself! Many of us now live in Cornwall. My own nuclear family live in North Wales.

My mom said we were related to Sir Walter Scott, before she died in 1996. Just curious. Her father's name was Carl William Scott, died in the 1950s around Glendale, California. His Mom's name was Edna Scott of Pasadena, California. She lived to 99 yrs old and died in the early 1970s. You have a nice site, guess I will continue my quest. I already have the other side of my family done but this one seems to be harder.

Looking for confirmation of the clan warcry, which my dad used to say was ' a bella dean ' (phonetic). Any help gratefully received. (no i am not thinking of starting a war!)

Ian Dunn
My name is Ian Dunn, I believe my bloodline runs from Clan Scott, but I am not 100%. My father and I have been searching for several years. My father, born James Mcdowall, to mother Eleanor Mcdowall and said to be father Harry Scott on December 1st, 1958 in Glasgow Scotland. My grandmother Eleanor, married William Dunn when my father was at a young age and changed his last name. I am 21 years of age, I am currently enlisted in the United States Air Force, stationed at Barksdale AFB, Louisiana. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 3rd great grandfather named James Kinear (Kinnear) that immigrated from Scotland to the US before 1825 that was born in Scotland in 1803. In his widow's obituary, it mentions that he was related to Sir Walter Scott. Any idea where I can start? Thanks. **Why not try one of the following for starters: www.scottishgenealogyresearch.co.uk or www.electricscotland.com/webclans/scotroot.htm

I have been busy trying to map my family tree. My Grand father imigrated to South Africa from Ireland in 1901. His father was a minister in a Presbyterian church outside Dungannon. We have managed, with the help of the Ulster Research Foundation to trace the family back to Ramelton in County Donnegal in 1700. I visited the Border areas in June this year to try and find when my branch of the Scotts left for Ireland.I pressume it must have been during the plantation. I tried to find information in Hawick, Selkirk and a few other places, but information seems very scarce. Kan anyone help in pointing me in the right direction. Chers, colin Scott
